About California Plaza

The California Plaza was partially conceived by the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency as part of an 11.2 acre multi-use site, located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. This area is known as Grand Ave Arts together with The Broad, Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), The Colburn School, REDCAT, Disney Hall, The Music Center, and Gloria Molina Grand Park.

Since its inception, The California Plaza was designed to be an inviting public gathering space to serve as a venue for cultural events and special occasions.

Features

The California Plaza is surrounded by a desert lush landscape and adjacent to the famous railway Angel’s Flight. The capacity for the mainstage and surrounding areas is 6,000 people.

The adjoining Amphitheater can accommodate close to 300, and the Spiral Court down the pathway can accommodate upwards of 100.

Beyond these stages, there are also walkways and gathering spots that create idyllic moments for individuals and families to enjoy.

The California Plaza is iconic to Los Angeles and has cemented its place as a preferred destination for Angelenos and tourists alike to build memories (and take selfies) in downtown LA.

The California Plaza is a unique outdoor venue that is one of a kind in downtown LA and Southern California. Patrons are often mesmerized by its extraordinary location cradled between two high–rise towers, with the nighttime sky as a beautiful, natural canopy.
